12th Grade Omnibus: On Faith
Magdalen Classical Academy’s “12th Grade Omnibus: On Faith” course invites students into the rich theological and literary traditions of Christianity, from Jesus’ earthly ministry and the earliest days of the church up to the time of the Reformation. Beginning with the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts, students will learn about the history of the Christian church and deepen their understanding of the Christian faith as they delve into the seminal works of key theologians and explore the poetic masterpieces of the Christian west. As the course concludes, they will turn their attention to the diverging perspectives of Christians after the Reformation, reading the major Reformers and considering the Creeds of different Christian traditions existing in the present day. Texts include On the Incarnation, Confessions, The Consolation of Philosophy, The Divine Comedy, The Canterbury Tales, Institutes of the Christian Religion, and more.
The ultimate goal of the course is for students to grow into mature, virtuous Christians with a rich, transformative vision of the Christian faith, rooted in the heritage of Christian inquiry and imagination.
It is our hope that by reading, discussing, and researching the writings of brilliant and influential theologians, philosophers, preachers, and poets from across the centuries, “12th Grade Omnibus” students will be inspired to enrich and strengthen their own theological commitments by framing them in the context of historical Christianity, bringing them to a more nuanced understanding of their faith and a deeper love of God, its founder and perfecter.
We recommend that parents and independent study programs count this class as meeting the requirements for 30 high school credits of World Literature and Composition (10), Bible/Theology (10), and World History (10).
This class meets twice per week according to the campus schedule.
Note: If your student is taking an Omnibus class for the first time, they must also enroll in the online Writing Lab class.
Note: If you wish to enroll your student at our Fullerton Campus, you will need to enroll them through Peace Hill.
